At risk of life and limb, we got up close and personal with Samsung's second generation UMPC: the
Q2 Q1 Ultra. What did we find? Nothing, the
Q1 Ultra, Ultra Mobile PC (so nice, they named it twice?) is exactly what we heard. Still, in what may be a first,
this UMPC actually looks better in person than it does in the collateral. We couldn't actually get hands-on with the unit. For that we'll have to wait until tomorrow. We're dying to know about the chipset powering the Vista Home Premium pre-load. In the mean time, check the pics and official specs in the gallery below.
Update: We've spotted some detailed specs
here. Oddly, the Q1 Ultra runs an 800MHz processor, compared to the
Q1P's 1GHz. Prices are at $1,300 to $2,000 "depending on the processor," so we'll keep an eye out for other options.
Update: Check out the press shots we added to this gallery.

So why are there no pen-enabled umpcs yet?
James @ Mar 14th 2007 4:00PM
huh?
Sean @ Mar 14th 2007 3:59PM
That's all well and good, but when are you sending me my OQO 2?
I kid.. I kid...
James @ Mar 14th 2007 3:59PM
Thank you Samsung for killing the resale value of my UMPC, even though the new design gives users even more reason to hate holding a UMPC due to the accidental pushing of buttons without setting the screen-lock. Now we get the option to randomly send an email as we walk around.
Eh, nice design all the same. They aren't giving upgrades to Vista for the previous Q1 series even though I bought mine late November with the incorrect knowledge that they'd provide an upgrade. Doh, what an idiot.

The OQO 02 is pen enabled (if you mean active screen)
Looks nice. Have to say though, its still bigger than my Sony u750p which is a couple of years old and also runs Vista. The big difference is the keyboard and the higher resolution.
Notice this runs Glass/aero

Report saying - "No 'real' mouse pointer (just s kid of slidey button thing ), buttons are super tiny. Harder to use than Pepper Pad."
http://www.umpcportal.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=403
Confirmed - its does run aero

I see that they've abandoned the touch-screen keyboard in favor of a tactile buttons. Will Apple do the same for the iPhone?

What hall and stand number is the Q1 Ultra at? Samsung is at many locations at Cebit. And I want to start my day by going to this one.
Kev50027 @ Mar 14th 2007 4:38PM
I also have a Sony Vaio U750P. what is that program running in the screenshots? I see WMP, but the other program I don't recognize.
nbalthaser @ Mar 14th 2007 5:18PM
it looks like from one of the photos that lists the specs, that the camera and fingerprint reader are optional...
quick @ Mar 14th 2007 9:22PM
Wonder how a fingerprint reader can be optional. I'm assuming the lower end model of the Q1 Ultra (if there are other versions) will not have the fingerprint reader?
Mobi Fin @ Mar 14th 2007 6:48PM
Nice work Sammy!
I see the dedicated dial keys button as well. That was much needed on my old Q1. Looking forward to owning one of these ASAP!

I tried it out (at Cebit) and was very disappointed.
Slow, unappealing.
Has a touch screen that can work with fingers (the pen was missing, for security reasons I guess).
There were plenty of machines available to demonstrate the various applications (games, GPS etc.) but they took forever to load applications and got worse when more than one was running.
I won't be buying...
