If there's one thing you can count on in the wild world of gadgetry, it's that the Chinese PMP-mill will keep churning 'em out as long as you keep buying 'em. This week is no different of course, and we've got two new offerings to bring your way. First off is the Foryou PMP710, a gigantic and somewhat nasty looking 7-inch, touchscreen number with all the usual format capabilities (MPEG1, 2 and 3, MP3, WAV, AAC, etc.), although the player also rocks USB 2.0, NTSC/PAL outputs, and a 20GB or 40GB hard drive -- for all your storage needs. On the prettier (and smaller) side of things, Sansui has launched the 614E, a metal-encased, 8mm thick PMP that does AVI, DivX, MP3, WMA, WAV and JPEG playback, has a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, and uses an SD slot for up to 2GB of sweet, sweet storage. No word on availability or pricing for the two models.

The 614E actually looks kinda cool until you get down to the "SD slot for up to 2GB of sweet, sweet storage." I'm sorry, 2GB SD cards are not "sweet, sweet storage" anymore. 2GB is for the weak, and no modern device, especially a PMP, should be without SDHC compatibility. I'll stick with my Cowon D2.

I always wonder as well why so many devices are released without SDHC support. I'm not too familiar with the technology, but it doesn't seem like it would cost much at all to add that (much needed) functionality. Just using a few more bits for addressing just seems like a design choice that must be made from the start of the project.
Lack of miniSDHC support has also stopped me from purchasing any cell phone in the past year, as models that support it are still sparse.

Huh? My old Motorola V360 supports miniSDHC at least. Just have to remove the battery cover to get to the slot.
But, why would you want miniSDHC anyway when 16gb SD cards are coming out? Just for the small form factor or what?
